Nigel's Slovakia trip - page 1 (Bratislava)

I had a cheap flight with SkyEurope from London Stansted (STN), and arrived at Bratislava M.R.Stefanik airport (BTS) on the evening of Wednesday 15th March..
I had planned to catch the 32 bus to the hotel (out of town, near the river Danube), but the guy on the information desk said that the no.1 tram went that way.
I caught the 61 bus to the main railway station (hlavná stanica), but couldn't find the stop for the no.1 tram - I later found it isn't running from the station because of road works.

It was getting dark, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to identify where I needed to get off, so I took a taxi to the hotel..
This is the Hotel Družba, which is part of the student accommodation for the university.
The next day, I had to check out, so I dragged my case onto a tram for a trip out of town (Dúbravka), to visit the office of panorama.sk, from where I had bought some books and maps, to return a dictionary which was unsuitable (full of terms for people intending to do business). I found the right stop, then trudged through the half-cleared paths (snow and ice on the ground) to find the building. I was shown various books, and came away with a few. Heading back to town, I got off near the castle [hrad] and new bridge [nový most].. Bratislava castle

I made my way along by the river, then headed into the old town..

I spotted a McDonalds (I hadn't get any breakfast), then continued towards Panská, where I saw this well-known bit of street art, called Cumil:

I continued along Panská towards Dóm sv. Martina (St.Martin's cathedral), where I saw this building.

Kapitulská and St.Clara church
I ended up near St. Martin's gate (where there is this small shop that serves a wide variety of chocolate):

then on to Hlavné námestie (main square), where they have a statue of Roland. (I prefer the one in Bremen, see my pic. here)

I made my way up to the Palace:

I caught what seems to be the only direct train to Nitra (apparently most people go by bus).
